What level of charging stations are available?
Before we tell you more about the incentive program, we want to make sure you understand the different charging stations that you will come across as an EV owner. The first is Level I, which has around 1.4-kW of power and provides a full charge in around 16 hours. Most people use this level right at home, since you can plug your vehicle right into an outlet without anything else needed. The next option is Level 2 charging, which comes with 6.6 kW of power, and can get you to a full charge in around 3.5 hours. You can get this option installed at your home, but many people go to public charging stations to avoid the costs of having to get it professionally wired. The last charging station we're looking at is Level 3, otherwise known as DC Fast Charging. The power here is at 50-kW and can get you to a full charge in just 30 minutes. As you can see, there are many different ways to get your vehicle back on the road.
What is Charge Up Michigan?
In order to help incentivize equipment installation, the state of Michigan goes through the Charge Up Michigan Program. The state, through the Department of Environment, has allocated around $9.7 million in grants. Any private or public organization that is in Michigan, or even has a large presence in Michigan is allowed to apply for this grant. These applications must be in partnership with the local electric utility company to ensure that everything rolls out smoothly. The three current energy companies that are recognized include Indiana Michigan Power Company, DTE Electric, and Consumers Electric. Optimizing the placement of more charging stations will allow more people to gain entry to their own electric vehicle, and continue the distancing of ourselves from regular gasoline machines.
What are the rebate offers?
There are two program rebate offers available. The first is PowerMIDrive, which even includes options for residential customers. The first thing to note is the up to $70,000 for companies who install DC Fast Chargers. The other available rebate comes in the form of $500/vehicle for residential customers who have installed a Level 2 charger at their own residences. The other program is PowerMIFleet, which provides $5,000 for the installation of a Level 2 port, $35,000 for a nonpublic DC Fast Charger, and $70,000 for a public DC Fast Charger.
